Rosalie Richardson
Liver Recipient August 8, 2005
On July 28th 2005, I was admitted to a local hospital for some special tests, ordered by my primary doctor. He wanted to confirm some problems I had been having with constant tummy aches. I had no idea that my liver was failing and I only had a short time to live.

My liver transplant was performed on august 8th 2005, when I woke up three weeks later I was in Memorial Hermann Hospital (ICU). Dr. Saggi, my surgeon, along with the rest of the surgery team informed me that I had been transferred to Memorial Hermann transplant center and that I had received a new liver. Wow, what mind boggling news. After finding two livers that were not a good match, the third one, even though it was a little large, was a good match.

After spending one month in Memorial Hermann Hospital I was transferred to Kindred Hospital for rehabilitation. On October 5th 2005 I went home in a wheelchair but, on Thanksgiving Day I was able to walk to the dinner table! I feel great and I have no complaints.

I would like to thank my donor family for such a precious gift, my surgery team for doing an excellent job and for saving my life and everyone that works the transplant program
To anyone who feels like giving up, don’t. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

ANGEL BY MY SIDE

Soft whispers on a lonely night,
My heart heard your call.
You cared for me so passionately,
How could I fall?
I saw you in my dreams,
Before I saw your face.
You cared for me,
You prayed for me,
You always knew your place.
So, I thank you my angel,
You helped me run my race.
If you walked on a cloud,
If you hovered with wings,
If I never saw you again,
We will always be friends.
If an angel came to visit you,
What would you say?
Would you take them by the hand?
Would you let them spend the day?

You are the angel by my side.
